As our nation advances, the need for a more inclusive, coordinated and robust peoples participatory platform for engaging citizens on progressive national issues has become more relevant and expedient. In today’s Nigeria, citizens’ conversation on policy, leadership, governance models, and even government programmes are largely uncoordinated.
Current topical issues being debated all around the country, especially on the issues of governance, sustainable development, and restructuring of the federation for better productivity, appear uncoordinated and disarticulated to engage and aggregate the views and aspirations of citizens at all levels.
The ordinary citizen whose past, present and future interests are deeply tied to government policy and programs are rarely involved and consented to.
It is against this background that we propose an inclusive, coordinated, non-partisan, unbiased people-engagement platform tagged, “SoapboxNG”, to widen the civic space for more informed conversations on topical and pertinent issues of nation building through dialogues in the public space.
