Ike Neliaku is easily acknowledged as a talented organiser and skillful administrator. He has a combined experience of about 3 decades in public administration, information and communication, governance and development, community advocacy and consensus building, etc. He started with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos, followed by
Masters and Doctorate degrees in Political Economy and Development Studies, respectively, from the University of Abuja.
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations since 2005, Fellow, African Public Relations Association; Member Nigeria Institute of Management, and Life Member Society for International Development. Dr. Neliaku worked in the Nigerian public service for over 20 years, holding top level positions in Federal Ministries and The Presidency at different times.
He served as Special Assistant to 5 successive Ministers of Information for about a decade and was later deployed to The Presidency in 1999 as pioneer Special Assistant to help set up the then newly created Ministry of Cooperation and Integration in Africa.
From 2003 to 2006, he served as Special Assistant (Special Duties) in the Office of the Political Adviser to the President, where he helped to restructure and refocus the Office for greater efficiency, deeper value and enhanced public perception. In 2010, Mr. Neliaku was appointed Senior Special Assistant (Administration) to the President, Office of the First Lady, until he left office in May 2015. He served as pioneer Member of the Governing Council, Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State.
While in Government, Ike served variously as Chairman, Technical Coordinator, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Member, of over 37 specialized committees and Task Teams. He also served as a member of various federal government delegations to over 45 countries, participated in more than 55 technical missions on sustainable and community development; information and communication management; stakeholder building and management; negotiations and diplomacy; cultural identity and relations; public sector administration; infrastructure development; leadership and governance; gender empowerment; youth development; etc.
In the private sector, Dr Neliaku worked as Director Programmes, Institute of Civil Society Abuja; founding Vice Chairman/CEO, abc Shelters Ltd (a property development and management company). He is at present the Principal Partner, Rightangle PR (a public relations consultancy firm); Chairman, Rightangle Productions (a heritage movie production company).
In community development service, he, along with other concerned citizens of Anambra State, initiated the Anambra REBIRTH Coalition (a non-partisan intervention for value reorientation, political education and economic empowerment for youths in Anambra state), serving as its pioneer Coordinator between 2009 and 2011. He is currently the Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Asokoro Division, Abuja; Editor, PR Monthly (a monthly newsletter of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, Federal Capital Chapter).
In recognition of his creativity, leadership skills and contributions to society, he was during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1990, conferred with the Best NYSC Imo State Governor’s Award, by Government Imo State, and the President's Award, by President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, an honour that earned him automatic employment into the federal civil service in 1991.
Ike Neliaku is a husband and father.
